A 1999 Gibson J-150....We first met in 2000 and like the best dogs or cats was unwanted, waiting for me still new at Chicago Music Exchange by 2001 when I bought it to open for Mick Taylor...but that's another story. Yesterday I tried something I'd been thinking up a while now but hadn't yet tried. I detuned it to super deep open tunings barely playable but for warm strums into a big ribbon. I'm verrry particular about my 12-Strings and had been using the same one, a 1964 Gibson 12 since 2004 until last year when this early 80s Guild came into my musical tackle box. I've been directly avoiding certain gear and models that my heroes played to carve my own path and sonic stamp but every now and then there's a damn good reason you see them in those hero hands. Had a great chat with @petedroge about these a few years ago and well....if ya know....ya know. Plays and records like a dream and already on three tunes today at 663 Sound.

A song is almost mixed and I realized it needed piano. Tried a new approach to the magical 1904 Steinway at 663 Sound. With the @ribbonmics R88A I can position the mic exactly where the piano needs to sit in the mix and can "pan" the part at the source. 1940s RCA77 for mono rm vibe and an Earthworks to capture the planet shaking low end unleashed by this 121 year old instrument. Always experiment with your sounds and music! Thanks to @b.stanley70 for introducing me to @earthworksaudio low end.

HAPPY 40 YEARS BROTHERS IN ARMS @direstraitshq 40 Years ago I was playing piano recitals often around the Chicago area as a 5 year old boy. I'd been playing piano already 3 years and would have been a "you tube kid" if that had been a thing back then. It was that year I heard a specific sound and to this day I remember hearing it exactly....WHAT IS THAT!?! My piano doesn't sound like THAT!! I still get that feeling hearing the "Money For Nothing" intro. Thank you Mark, John, Guy, Omar, Sting and the lads for steering me away from appliance salesmanship and pointing me towards a career as a Yo-Yo where the love comes free. "Why Worry" is so magic and that closing number.... just wow. One of my very fav albums and ironic of its digital success and digital production, it was the first vinyl LP I bought as a teenager. Getting questions from people who have heard my song "Find Some Peace (Acoustic Mix)" at the end of @abbyslist in AMC theaters around the US about what Ukulele I used for the recording. Answer: my trusty @koalohaukulele Uke which has a concert body, a tenor neck and a sound of joy, hope, happiness, gold and pure aloha. So happy Koaloha Ukuleles came into my musical world over a decade ago and so honored to have music in Abbys List.

Happy Mother's Day! I've a Mom with a sharp mind

Happy Mother's Day! I've a Mom with a sharp mind, a kind nature, who's read more books than most, keeps learning everyday, has a tough as nails spirit and a hopeful heart even if it gets broken by the state of the world every now and again. She leads by example and inspires.... and on occasion asks me to take her on adventures to places she's never or we've never been. Ever supportive in a not so normal life, I am forever grateful.

I am also so impressed by friends of mine who are such amazing mothers. Powerful women who inspire everyone around them to strive to be better people.

To the beacons of light some of us get to call Mom and to the amazing Mothers and Grandmothers no longer with us. And to those extra amazing Moms whose kids have fur, feathers or scales.
