Some more news from last year that I did not blast out in a newsletter……. is that a song I co-wrote had a wonderful feature in Rolling Stone Magazine! Years ago somewhere in the late 2000s, I was on tour in California near Joshua Tree and I became very ill. I had to go to hospital and while there, the Doctors said I had a bad fever and I happened to be at the High Desert Hospital. The words “fever” and “high desert” struck my writer’s antenna and made me laugh and while in the hospital, I started writing an “Elvis styled” tune called “High Desert Fever.” I got that “High Desert Fever….” because I actually did! Haha. I wrote the choruses and the ideas of a verse and a couple years later, I met up with fellow singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ted Russell Kamp and he and I started messing around with the song a bit to see if it would go anywhere. It didn’t. Until Ted called me in the middle of the heights of the pandemic lockdown and asked me if I had any ideas for “High Desert Fever” because he wanted to cut it for his new album. We finished it up over a zoom call and Ted took his version into the studio and cut it. Ted filmed a fun music video for the song as well in which I play a cameo.
Big thanks to Rolling Stone Magazine for featuring “High Desert Fever,” as a stand out track on Ted Russell Kamp’s latest album. Very cool that Rolling Stone also shared the “High Desert Fever” music video on their website as well! The article is a wonderful piece on Ted Russell Kamp’s fabulous career and latest album. With spins on SIRIUS XM and many other terrestrial stations over the last year, I’m so happy and proud that “High Desert Fever” is becoming a hit all these years later after writing it in a hospital near Joshua Tree. You never know when inspiration will strike and where it will lead you. Congrats Ted and once again…thank you Rolling Stone!
