A song is almost mixed and I realized it needed piano. Tried a new approach to the magical 1904 Steinway at 663 Sound. With the @ribbonmics R88A I can position the mic exactly where the piano needs to sit in the mix and can "pan" the part at the source. 1940s RCA77 for mono rm vibe and an Earthworks to capture the planet shaking low end unleashed by this 121 year old instrument. Always experiment with your sounds and music! Thanks to @b.stanley70 for introducing me to @earthworksaudio low end.

HAPPY 40 YEARS BROTHERS IN ARMS @direstraitshq 40 Years ago I was playing piano recitals often around the Chicago area as a 5 year old boy. I'd been playing piano already 3 years and would have been a "you tube kid" if that had been a thing back then. It was that year I heard a specific sound and to this day I remember hearing it exactly....WHAT IS THAT!?! My piano doesn't sound like THAT!! I still get that feeling hearing the "Money For Nothing" intro. Thank you Mark, John, Guy, Omar, Sting and the lads for steering me away from appliance salesmanship and pointing me towards a career as a Yo-Yo where the love comes free. "Why Worry" is so magic and that closing number.... just wow. One of my very fav albums and ironic of its digital success and digital production, it was the first vinyl LP I bought as a teenager. Getting questions from people who have heard my song "Find Some Peace (Acoustic Mix)" at the end of @abbyslist in AMC theaters around the US about what Ukulele I used for the recording. Happy Mother's Day! I've a Mom with a sharp mind, a kind nature, who's read more books than most, keeps learning everyday, has a tough as nails spirit and a hopeful heart even if it gets broken by the state of the world every now and again. She leads by example and inspires.... and on occasion asks me to take her on adventures to places she's never or we've never been. Ever supportive in a not so normal life, I am forever grateful.

I am also so impressed by friends of mine who are such amazing mothers. Powerful women who inspire everyone around them to strive to be better people.

To the beacons of light some of us get to call Mom and to the amazing Mothers and Grandmothers no longer with us. And to those extra amazing Moms whose kids have fur, feathers or scales.

Happy VE Day! 80 years ago today, victory over fascism and Nazi regime was declared. Only 80 years ago all that happened. Everyone reading this knows someone 80 years old right now or who was alive during WWII. The cycles rhyme too often. Here I am from November at Omaha Beach in Normandy France where Operation Overlord took place to begin the push that would achieve VE Day. I've been visiting as many of these exact important locations in person as possible to learn from them and soak up the history. Happy VE Day!

My studio, 663 Sound is getting a control room spe

My studio, 663 Sound is getting a control room speaker upgrade for a large project coming up and I've been compiling a short list of albums and singles from different decades to give a critical listen in order to acclimate to the new speakers. Hearing music and listening to music are two completely different things and the listening part is a deeply personal and spiritual part of my being. One guy summed it up well one time saying "they love it like you love jesus...it does the same thing to their souls."

While making my list, I noticed that I have met, worked with, spent a lot of time with or become friends with a large majority of the people who made the albums on my list. Didn't even think of that until I saw them all spelled out and a cool emotional connection while studying scientifically.

So with that I say....MEET YOUR HEROES. Not only will they help you test your speakers, but some of them are and were pretty fuckin' cool people.
